Moon phases#200

I would like to see the current moon phases so it can be tracked in relation to my migraines. It would be incredibly helpful to not have to look that up on my own and add notes - esp during a migraine, the last thing I want to do is look stuff up and be on my phone more than necessary

Hello Laura,
Thanks for this suggestion! I will share it with our team.

For now I don’t think any research paper has found any correlation between moon phases and migraines/headaches. But it’s definitely something we could look into.

How moon phases are affecting you persnally? Have you been able to identify any pattern?
Also have you been able to identify your sensitivity to other triggers? Are they mostly related to weather?

I hope to hear back from you!

Wishing you a migraine-free day 💖

Full moon may be most relevant? It may not be scientifically validated yet, but given the moon’s impact on water tides/fluid dynamics, it’s always seemed reasonable to me. I notice a correlation between full moons (couple days before and after- similar to menstruation) and attacks. Angela Stanton references the impact of a full moon in her book if that’s helpful as you’re investigating.

And New moon, I have trouble sleeping on full mood days.

The gravitational pull of the moon on the fluids in the body is more than a billon times less than the osmotic force of eating a single grain of salt. Oceans are only affected because of the massive amounts of water. It is not only “not validated” it is impossible given current understanding of science.

Less darkness at night around full moon, however, can affect our body and especially sleep. Even if the bedroom itself is dark, less darkness after sunset can affect the body.

I agree, I have add it in the triggers list in the app. Very useful

Please do not add unscientific features to the app. I would distrust Migraine Buddy if things like this were added and taken seriously. Per Scientific American’s article on why the full moon lunacy theory is incorrect: “First, the gravitational effects of the moon are far too minuscule to generate any meaningful effects on brain activity, let alone behavior. As the late astronomer George Abell of the University of California, Los Angeles, noted, a mosquito sitting on our arm exerts a more powerful gravitational pull on us than the moon does. Yet to the best of our knowledge, there have been no reports of a “mosquito lunacy effect.” Second, the moon’s gravitational force affects only open bodies of water, such as oceans and lakes, but not contained sources of water, such as the human brain. Third, the gravitational effect of the moon is just as potent during new moons—when the moon is invisible to us—as it is during full moons.”
